Is Solar Right for Your Camping Style?

The decision to go solar should match how you actually camp — not how you think you might camp. A moderate solar system with inverter and lithium batteries can run over $7,000. A major off-grid system can exceed $30,000. Consider these options first:

Upgrade to Lithium First

A standard 12V lead-acid battery gives you only ~42 usable amp-hours. Lithium-ion gives you 90%+ of capacity, longer lifespan, and less weight. Often the smartest first step before committing to full solar.

Portable Solar Panels

If you're an occasional boondocker, portable panels let you camp in the trees and move panels into the sun — without the major expense or permanent installation of a rooftop system.

Solar Generator

Essentially a lithium battery with an inverter in a portable case. Good for weekend use, can power appliances at home during outages. Portable and flexible — a solid mid-ground option.
